Lauth ties rookie walk record

WASHINGTON - The final home and non-conference battle of the season for the GW softball team did not go the Revolutionaries' way as Georgetown escaped with a 2-1 victory at the GW Softball Field on Tuesday. GW falls to 24-26 overall ahead of this weekend's final series of the season at St. Bonaventure.

After both teams stayed quiet in the first two innings, Georgetown broke the tie on a two-RBI double in the third to go ahead 2-0. The double was one of Georgetown's five hits on the day and was the Hoyas' only scoring play of the game as GW's starter Sophia Torreso found success against the Hoyas outside of the third inning. Torreso stranded eight Hoya runners and struck out five batters in the contest.

The Buff & Blue had action on the base paths in six of the seven innings, but took until the seventh to score. The Revolutionaries' lone run of the game came with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh, as pinch runner Sidney Torres scored from third on a passed ball, which cut the lead to 2-1 and allowed the game-winning run to move to second base. That is where GW's comeback attempt was halted as Georgetown punched out the final batter to end the game.

Allison Heffley, Ashley Corpuz, Paige Hayward and Abby Schaub each had one of GW's four hits. Mandy Lauth drew a walk in the fourth inning which was her 33rd of the season, tying her with Jenna Cone for first place on GW's rookie walks list.

The Revolutionaries return for the final series of the 2024 regular season, Saturday (doubleheader) and Sunday at St. Bonaventure. First pitch on both days is set for 12 p.m. and each game of the series will be available on ESPN+.
