WASHINGTON - With just eight games remaining in the regular season, the George Washington University softball team is gearing up for its penultimate non-conference battle, Wednesday at the GW Softball Field vs. Morgan State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. and coverage will be carried on ESPN+.Â
FINAL HOMESTAND
The Revolutionaries are home for their next five games where they will look to build upon their 15-9 record at home as they close play on The Vern in 2024. After GW hosts Morgan State on Wednesday, the Buff & Blue return for an important A-10 series vs. UMass on Saturday (12 p.m. & 2. p.m.) and Sunday (12 p.m.), before playing its final home game of the season vs. Georgetown on Tuesday, April 30 (3 p.m.).
CORPUZ CLOSES COLOSSAL WEEK
Sophomore outfielder Ashley Corpuz is coming off an impressive five-game stretch. Spanning back to Tuesday's doubleheader vs. George Mason, Corpuz has gone 3-11 with seven RBI and three runs scored. Corpuz has shown a patient approach in that span, drawing eight walks - including free bases in four of five games - for an OBP of .579. Corpuz has also brought power with two home runs and .818 SLG in the last five games. The Ladera Ranch, Calif., native started each game in left field and converted on all 11 putout opportunities and added one assist vs. Rhode Island.Â
LAST TIME OUT
After falling in both games of Saturday's doubleheader at Rhode Island, the GW Revs came back and closed the series with a 3-1 win in Sunday's series finale. First-inning RBIs courtesy of Alena Ramirez and Corpuz were all the Revolutionaries needed as Sophia Torreso allowed just one run on six hits, shutting down the Rams' offense in the finale. Paige Hayward added the final RBI, an insurance run in the fifth on a single to third, as GW avoided the sweep in Kingston.
