Tennis Concludes Regular Season in Philly

WASHINGTON – The George Washington tennis team is set for three A-10 matches in Philadelphia this weekend to conclude the 2024 regular season. The Revolutionaries battle Saint Joseph's on Friday at 2:30 p.m., before taking on Rhode Island Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Richmond on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Last Sunday, GW suffered a 4-0 defeat at UMass. The Minutewomen got out to a fast start in the match by claiming No. 2 and No. 3 doubles victories. UMass followed it up with wins in Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles to secure the match victory.
Prior to Sunday's defeat, GW secured a Senior Day win over Georgetown on Friday. The Buff & Blue beat the Hoyas 4-3 for the team's fourth win of the season. The Revolutionaries started the day with two doubles victories, seeing the pair of Stella Wiesemann and Gabriela Giraldo earn a 7-6 win in No. 1 doubles, while Victoria Sasinka and Solange Skeene tallied a dominant 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles. In singles action, the Buff & Blue were victorious in three of the six matches. Wiesemann earned a 2-0 (6-2, 6-4) win in No. 1 singles, Giraldo secured a 2-1 (4-6, 6-3), 6-2) victory in No. 2 singles and Sasinka capped off the victory with a 2-0 (6-2, 6-4) triumph in No. 3 singles.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Saint Joseph's enters the weekend 3-11 overall after falling 4-0 to St. Bonaventure last Sunday. The Hawks lone A-10 win of the season came on March 29 against George Mason, defeating the Patriots 4-1 in Hawk Hill. Saint Joseph's two nonconference wins came against Stonehill and Lafayette. The Hawks defeated Stonehill 6-1 and toppled Lafayette 5-2.
Rhode Island travels to western Pennsylvania 12-4 overall and 2-1 in conference action this season. The Rams are riding a two-match winning streak which includes a 4-2 victory over Richmond and a 4-1 win against Bryant. Rhode Island's lone conference loss came on March 30, falling to Davidson 6-1. From Feb. 11 – March 15, the Rams put together a nine-match winning streak which included four shutouts.
Richmond readies for the weekend with a 6-9 record and a 2-4 mark in A-10 matches. The Spiders are a perfect 5-0 at home this season, but struggle on the road with a record of 1-9. The Spiders have lost four straight contests, most recently to Rhode Island last Sunday. Richmond's conference victories came on March 24, a 4-3 win over Davidson, and on Feb. 24, a 4-0 triumph against George Mason.
