WASHINGTON -Â Returning to action with a flourish, GW men's basketball's Darren Buchanan Jr. was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday, earning the accolade for the fourth time this season.Â
Buchanan wasted no time getting back to showcasing how he is the top rookie in the circuit in two games last week after missing three of the previous four affairs due to an injury. The D.C. product averaged 21.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 2.5 apg while shooting 50% from the floor and 81.3% from the charity stripe in two games against UMass and La Salle.
Coming off the bench on Tuesday, Buchanan scored 21 points on an efficient 7-of-12 shooting against the Minutemen. He also added seven rebounds (four offensive), three assists and two steals in 27 minutes of action. Then on Saturday at La Salle, Buchanan equaled his 21-point output on 7-of-16 shooting, grabbing six more rebounds and providing two assists.
For the season, the redshirt freshman is up to 15.6 ppg and 6.7 rpg, ranking eighth and seventh, respectively, among all players in the A-10. He is also third in the circuit in field goal percentage at 54.8%.
