WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team fell in a nail-biting series finale to Saint Louis by a final score of 2-1. The Revolutionaries move to 18-15 overall and 5-4 in the A-10.Â
It was a pitchers' duel from start to finish as GW's Rose Cano and Saint Louis' Taylor Hochman were dealing in the circle. Cano went 6.2 innings and allowed two runs, doing well to keep GW close throughout. Hochman went the distance for SLU, allowing one run on five hits and four walks.
The Revolutionaries had plenty of action on the bases but struggled to bring home runs. GW had its lead-off batter reach in each of the first five innings, but only scored in the first as GW took advantage and scored on a double steal.
SLU tied the game in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the seventh. The Buff and Blue rallied in the last of the seventh and got two runners aboard with two outs, but the rally fell short as the Billikens walked away with the series win.
Alena Ramirez had two of GW's five hits and scored the only run on the double steal. Maggie Greco was 1-2 with a walk and hit by pitch, while Ashley Corpuz drew a game-high two walks.
The Revolutionaries will return to the GW Softball Field on Tuesday to host rival George Mason for a midweek doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m., and both games will be carried on ESPN+.Â
