WASHINGTON - The George Washington University softball team will look to make it three-for-three in series wins this season as it travels to Dayton for the first A-10 road series of the year. The Revolutionaries and Flyers will go head-to-head in a doubleheader on Saturday before finishing the series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
MIDWEEK SWEEP
GW swept a pair of CAA opponents in two run-rule victories at home this week. The Buff & Blue welcomed Towson on Tuesday and scored six runs in the third on its way to a 9-0 win in five innings. First-year pitcher Sophia Torreso made the start and allowed just four hits in her first career shutout and third win of the season. On Wednesday, GW hosted Hofstra and kept the momentum from the day prior, scoring five runs in the first inning and taking down the Pride by a final score of 10-0 in five innings. Cece Smith struck out more batters (7) than she allowed on base (6), as she earned her league best 12th win - three more than Saint Louis' Taylor Hochman (9) in second.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Dayton enters the weekend at 12-9 overall and 2-1 in the A-10 after taking two of three games at George Mason last weekend. The Flyers won seven of their first nine games, but struggled in their second tournament of the season, dropping all four games to Southern Illinois (2x), Northern Illinois, and Western Kentucky. They have since gone 5-3 as they continue to look to right the ship.
Offensively, the Flyers are led by Maddie Kapsimalis and Emily Daniel, who are tied with a team-high 18 RBI. Kaptismalis is the team's OPS leader at .947 and also has a team-high five doubles and 13 walks, while Daniel has a team-high 15 runs scored. Kirnan Bailey is another Flyer to look out for, posting a team-best .339 AVG and 14 runs scored. Izzy Kemp is the Flyers' ace again this season, and has a league-best 1.69 ERA and 76 strikeouts.
GW trails the all-time series, 27-24, and was swept by the Flyers in 2023. In 2022, GW won the regular-season series, 2-1, before knocking off the Flyers, 8-0 in six innings, to earn a berth to the A-10 Championship.Â
