GW has outscored opponents 19-0 in the last 10 innings
WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team picked up its second run-rule victory in a row at the GW Softball Field as it defeated Hofstra on Wednesday, 10-0. The Revolutionaries closed their homestand at 6-1 and have won eight of their last nine games, improving to 15-12 overall and 9-5 at home.Â
The Revolutionaries jumped on the Pride early and were backed by another sensational start from Cece Smith. The already decorated first-year picked up her 12th win of the season, throwing a complete game and striking out more batters (7) than base runners allowed (6). The Pride had three hits and three walks, but were shutout in Smith's fourth clean sheet of the season.Â
The Buff & Blue scored five runs in the first inning and batted through the lineup, but with all of its production coming after the first two batters recorded outs. Allison Heffley drew a two-out walk to start things off, before each of the next six batters collected hits as GW's timely batting continued. Alexa Williams, Ashley Corpuz, Mandy Lauth and Rose Cano picked up a RBI, while Paige Hayward kept the line moving on a single.
Hayward later drove in a run on a single in the third, extending GW's lead to 6-0, before the GW Revs scored another four in the fourth to reach the 8-run threshold. Maggie Greco picked up two RBI on a triple, her second triple in as many days, before Heffley and Corpuz each capitalized to make it 10-0.Â
Seven different Revolutionaries picked up RBIs, while each of GW's 10 runs were scored by a different player. All nine Revolutionaries in the starting lineup reached base at least once as it was another top-to-bottom effort for GDUB. GW outscored its midweek opponents, Towson and Hofstra, 19-0 in just 10 innings, while coming up to bat two times less than the opposition.Â
Up next for the Revolutionaries is a trip to southwest Ohio for an A-10 series against Dayton. First pitch on both Saturday (doubleheader) and Sunday is set for 12 p.m.Â
