CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - GW softball completed its stay at the Carolina Classic on Sunday, falling to both Lipscomb and Mount St. Mary's. GW falls to 4-6 on the season after dropping all four games in North Carolina.
GAME 1 (GW 3, Lipscomb 5)
GW finally got its shot at Lipscomb on Sunday morning after rain prevented their Saturday night matchup from happening, but the Bison came prepared and used a third inning grand slam to dodge 10 GW hits and escaped with a 5-3 win.
The Revolutionaries had to claw back from a five-run deficit after the Bison scored one in the second inning and another four in the third. GW got one back in the fourth and knocked another two home in the fifth, but with the game-tying run on second base in the last of the seventh inning, the comeback bid fell just short.
Alexa Williams and Ashley Corpuz each finished with RBI doubles, while Corpuz scored GW's third run on a wild pitch. Cano went the distance for GW in the circle and struck out four. GW outhit Lipscomb, 10-7, but the Revolutionaries left 12 runners on base in the contest.
GAME 2 (GW 1, Mount St. Mary's 4)
The Buff and Blue looked to get back in the win column playing Mount St. Mary's in the second game of the Sunday doubleheader, but the Mount proved too tall and got the best of GW, 4-1.
Mount St. Mary's won the game on a three-run, walk-off home run by their leadoff hitter Abigale Perry. Perry's home run came in a tie game in the seventh after Mount equalized at 1-1 in the sixth.
GW's only run of the game came via an Allison Heffley RBI double down the left field line, which scored Mandy Lauth. Heffley finished with two of GW's five hits in the contest, including its only extra-base hit.
Sophia Torreso pitched all 6.1 for GW, striking out seven and walking just two, allowing three earned runs.
