WASHINGTON - GW softball first-year Mandy Lauth was selected as the A-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning. Lauth was picked as the conference's best player on Opening Weekend after her impressive college debut at the Kickin' Chicken Classic.
Lauth posted gaudy numbers in the first five games of her college career. In 16 at-bats, the Avon, Ind., native collected eight hits (.500 AVG) and an OPS of 1.404, nine RBI, two runs scored, one home run, one double and one triple. Defensively, Lauth converted on all 37 of her chances with 34 putouts and three assists.
Lauth was perfect at the plate on a pair of occasions over the weekend. Against Campbell, the first-year went 4-4 with three RBI, one run scored, one home run and one double - her big moment coming on a two-run home run in the second inning to put GW ahead, 2-1. In the weekend finale against Syracuse, Lauth was 3-3 with four RBI and one run - powered by her bases-clearing, three-RBI single to take the lead in the fourth.
Lauth and the rest of the Revolutionaries will look to stay hot on Tuesday, Feb. 20 when they host Canisius for their home-opening doubleheader (12:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m.) on The Vern.Â
