WASHINGTON -The George Washington men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back at it this weekend for the teams' final dual meet of the year, as GW takes on Yale on Saturday in New Haven, Conn. Diving begins at 9:15 a.m., followed by swimming at 11 a.m., and live coverage from Kiphuth Exhibition Pool will be carried on ESPN+, and live results can be found on divemeets.com and on the Meet Mobile app.
SWEET, SWEET SENIOR DAY
The Revolutionaries took on Georgetown while celebrating Senior Day at the Smith Center Saturday. GW was sure to make it a memorable meet for the seniors as it took down the Hoyas, 215-85 (women's) and 188-112 (men's), and extended the program's win streak to seven-straight meets over its crosstown rivals. GW won 26 of the meet's 32 total events, including each of the first 12 races on Saturday.
Sophomore diver Olivia Paquette headlined the individual performances with a personal-best and program-record performance on the 3-meter board. Paquette raised the bar on Friday night with a 336.90, breaking the existing program record (315.83), which she set earlier this season at the Pittsburgh meet.
BUFF & BLUE DEBUTS
A pair of first-year swimmers on the men's team made their Buff & Blue debuts on Saturday: breaststroke specialist Ralf Roose and IM/breaststroke specialist Georgi Yanev. Roose, a first-year out of Tartu, Estonia, picked up big points in his first appearance with individual wins in both the 100-yard (57.12) and 200-yard (2:05.58) breaststrokes. Yanev, from Sofia, Bulgaria, also had a strong debut, highlighted by his second-place and team-best finish in the 400-yard IM (4:08.31).
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Yale swimming and diving is a combined 10-3 in dual meets this season (7-0 women's; 3-3 men's). The Bulldog women are in the midst of their third-straight season without a dual meet loss - a streak GW will look to spoil on Saturday.
Both Yale's men's and women's teams finished third last season at the Ivy League Conference Championships. The Bulldogs last won the Ivy League Championships in 2017 (women's) and 1993 (men's).
Yale is led by head coach Jim Henry, who has been at the helm of Yale's women's team since the 2012-13 and Yale's men's team since 2017-18.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Revolutionaries will head to the UVA Cavalier Invite on Feb. 9-11 for the final meet of the regular season. Afterwards, GW's attention turns to the A-10 Championships, which runs from Feb. 21-24, at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
