Men's Basketball Hosts Davidson Saturday on Monumental Sports Network

WASHINGTON -Â GW men's basketball returns home for a busy holiday weekend, beginning with a 2 p.m. matinee against Davidson on Saturday afternoon on Monumental Sports Network and ESPN+.

A year after leading the A-10 in scoring with 76.3 ppg, GW is back on top of the circuit at 83.2 ppg, good enough for 27th in the NCAA. The 83.2 ppg would rank as the third-best scoring output in program history and the most since averaging 84.6 ppg in 1968-69.
GW is also in the top-75 nationally in 3-point percentage (18th), 3s per game (45th), effective FG percentage (51st), free throw percentage (55th), and field goal percentage (71st). GW has shot 70% or greater in a pair of halves this season, including a staggering 17-of-21 showing (81%) in the second half against VCU on Jan. 6 when the Revolutionaries did not miss a shot in the game's final seven minutes.
The Buff & Blue are 13-2 when shooting at least 50% under Coach Caputo and are also 16-2 when scoring at least 80 points.
NO MATTER WHAT, IT'S GOING TO BE CLOSE
All three players above Bishop (Mike Brown, Joe Holup and Chris Monroe) played in at least 104 games while Bishop has competed in just 94 for the Buff & Blue. With a minimum of 17 games remaining this season, Bishop would need to average 26.7 ppg to break the all-time school record of 2,248 held by Monroe.

Through two A-10 games, GW has dealt with an eye-popping 31 ties and 43 lead changes against Fordham and VCU. In 13 non-conference games, the Buff & Blue had a total of 32 ties and 42 lead changes combined.
Of a possible 55 minutes in second halves and overtimes, the game has been a one-possession margin for a staggering 51:14 of time. All but one possession of the 55 minutes has been within six points as Fordham had a seven-point lead for nine seconds in the third overtime last week.
BISHOP IN THE RECORD BOOKS
James Bishop IV, the reigning A-10 Player of the Week and USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, sits in fourth place on the GW all-time scoring list with 1,795 points, 122 shy of third place.Of a possible 55 minutes in second halves and overtimes, the game has been a one-possession margin for a staggering 51:14 of time. Bishop is also among GW's all-time top-10 in points per game (19.1, 7th), field goals made (608, 7th), 3-pointers made (181, 6th), free throws made (403, 6th) and minutes per game (35.8, 1st). The Baltimore native is five points shy of becoming the first player in the history of GW basketball with 1,800 points and 300 assists.
A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS
Davidson enters Saturday having lost both of its A-10 games at home to Dayton (72-59) and on Tuesday to Rhode Island (79-74). The Wildcats are last in the league in scoring at just 72.0 ppg, but feature five players who average double figures, accounting for 56 of the 72 points per game.
David Skogman, who returned to action vs. Rhode Island after missing two games, is the team's leading scorer at 13.5 ppg. Skogman leads the A-10 in field goal percentage at 58.6%. Additionally, Grant Huffman (11.5 ppg), Bobby Durkin (10.7), Reed Bailey (10.2) and Connor Kochera (10.2) all provide at least 10 per game. Huffman is third in the league with 5.0 assists per game.
In their first two A-10 games, the Wildcats have primarily struggled on the defensive end, allowing a league-worst 61.5% from 2-point range and an effective field goal percentage defense of 57.4%.Â
