
Women’s Soccer Set to Host Saint Joseph’s, Dayton in A-10 Action

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's soccer team continues the 2023 season with two home matches this week against Saint Joseph's and Dayton. The Revolutionaries welcome Saint Joseph's on Thursday at 3 p.m., while Dayton makes its way to the DMV on Sunday for a 1 p.m. clash. Both matches will be played at the GW Soccer Field and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
ANCHORING THE DEFENSE
Through GW's 11 matches this season, the Revolutionaries have relied on three goalkeepers to anchor the defense. Graduate student Rose Hemans, junior Ainsley Lumpe and sophomore Grace Crowe have all earned playing time this season and excelled during their minutes on the pitch. Hemans, a native of London, England, has faced 82 shots this season with 30 saves. Hemans boasts a 0.769 save percentage and is credited with two of GW's wins this year. Crowe, a native of Benham, Texas, also has 30 saves on the season and has faced 67 shots. Crowe currently has a save percentage of 0.789 and has one win in net for the Buff & Blue. Lumpe hails from Huntington, N.Y., and has seven saves on the year. Lumpe has faced 34 shots and has a save percentage of 0.778.
THE REMAINING MATCHES
Following GW's two home matches this week, the Revolutionaries have five remaining contests scheduled in the regular season. On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Buff & Blue will take part in its final nonconference match of the season, a road bout with NJIT. The Revolutionaries will conclude the regular season with four A-10 matches; facing Duquesne, George Mason, Davidson and St. Bonaventure. Following the two home matches this week, the Buff & Blue will only play one more match at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex, hosting Davidson on Thursday, Oct. 19. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m. with Senior Day festivities scheduled to take place prior to kickoff.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Saint Joseph's enters Thursday's match with a record of 1-5-5. Last Sunday, the Hawks were forced to postpone their match with George Mason due to inclement weather in the area. The match has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 4, and will be replayed in its entirety despite Saint Joseph's holding a 1-0 lead before the postponement was made official. All stats from the original match will not count.
The Hawks are led by Maddie Anderson who has two of the team's six goals on the year. Anderson has started all 11 matches this season and has four shots on goal. On Sept. 18, Anderson was tabbed the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Hawks to a 3-2 win over Richmond. Anderson tallied both of her goals this season in the second half against the Spiders, earning her the conference honor. Along with Anderson, Saint Joseph's has enjoyed production from Chloe Khelil who also has two goals this season. Khelil has three shots on goal and has also started all 11 games this season. Defensively, Saint Joseph's is led by goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti who has played all 990 minutes for the Hawks this season. Cappelletti has 53 saves on the year and has faced 153 total shots. She currently boasts a 0.779 save percentage and has a goals-allowed average of 1.36. GW currently holds a 12-8-3 advantage over the Hawks all-time despite Saint Joseph's defeating the Buff & Blue last season.

Before traveling to the DMV, Dayton will host Fordham on Thursday at 7 p.m. Leading the Flyers offensively is Madison Wilson who has 13 points on the year. Wilson has five goals and three assists in 12 games thus far. She currently has 26 total shots, including 15 shots on goal. Wilson leads the A-10 in total points, and currently sits in a tie for third in goals. Along with Wilson, Noel Blain has contributed in a big way to the Flyer offense. Blain has 12 points on the season, including five goals and two assists. Blain sits just behind Wilson in the conference ranks for points, and she is tied with her teammate for third in goals.
