Volleyball Stopped in Final Match at Eagle Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. – GW volleyball finished its weekend at the Eagle Invitational with a 3-0 loss to College of Charleston, 25-27, 23-25, 16-25.
BY THE NUMBERS
Salem Yohannes led the GW offense with eight kills on 17 attempts, finishing with a .294 hitting percentage. Yohannes added six digs and one block. Liv Womble and MC Daubendiek added six kills apiece. As a team, GW put down 33 kills, with Maeve Loughran and Dilara Elmacioglu tallying 15 and 11 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Penelope Hiepler finished with 13 digs and Kesley Watkins led GW at the net with three blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One came with eight ties, five of which came after the 18th point of the match. GW trailed from the opening point but put together a pair of three-point scoring runs at 14-10 to eventually tie the match at 18. GW had a chance to close out the opening set, but a pair of kills and a GW error lifted the Cougars to a one-set advantage.
Boosted by a four-point scoring run to open Set Two, GW moved to a 6-3 lead over the Cougars. College of Charleston outscored GW 10-2 to regain control of the set. A five-point rally from GW cut the lead to two, but four late kills from the Cougars helped to a 2-0 set lead.
College of Charleston out-hit GW 14-6 in the final set, never surrendering its lead and closing the match on a five-point scoring run to move to 2-5 on the season.
