2023 Women's Basketball Foreign Tour

DAY 9 - GREECE
- It was the final day of this year's Foreign Tour. GW spent the day island hopping to three different Greek Islands (Hydra, Poros and Aegina).
- Thanks for following along during our time in Italy & Greece. We'll see you at the Smith Center this season!

DAY 7/8 - GREECE
- On day 7, GW women's basketball enjoyed a day at the pool and beach on the Saronic Gulf.
- On day 8, the Buff & Blue toured the Athens Olympic Stadium.
- GW then headed to the neighborhood of Plaka for lunch and shopping before a final team dinner on the water back at the resort.
- The team will have its final full day in Greece tomorrow on an island hopping boat tour.
DAY 6 - GREECE
- GW headed to the airport this morning to head to Athens for the second and final stop of this year's Foreign Tour.
- After landing, the team ate lunch and shopped in the Plaka Neighborhood before spending the rest of the afternoon touring The Acropolis.
- GW then headed to its hotel which is nestled on the Aegean Sea in a town called Glyfada.

DAY 5 - ITALY
- GW spent most of its day in Vatican City, touring the Vatican Gardens, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica.
- GW played its second and final game of the 2023 tour.
- The Buff & Blue will head to Athens on Friday morning for the final stop of their trip.



DAY 4 - ITALY
- It was the team's final morning in Florence, with a train ride to Rome after breakfast.
- We arrived in Rome at 12:30 p.m. local time and made our way to tour the Colosseum.
- Following the historic guide through the elliptical amphitheatre in the center of Rome, GW headed to Piazza Navona for lunch before its walking tour.
- After lunch, GW viewed the Pantheon church which was a former Roman temple.
- The team then walked to the Trevi Fountain which was designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Pietro Bracci. GW took turns making life wishes at the fountain by throwing a coin into the water.
- GW finished its day at the Spanish Steps.
- The Buff & Blue will have one final full day in Rome tomorrow, including its final game of the tour before heading to Athens, Greece on Friday.


DAY 3 - ITALY
- Ready for its first Game Day in Italy, GW women's basketball began its day with a pizza making class at Rubaconte Ristorante in Florence. GW made the dough and customized individual pizzas with a variety of toppings and cheeses.
- Serving as their pregame meal, the Buff & Blue returned to the hotel for a quick change before departing to the Palazzetto Dello Sport to play its first of two games on tour.
- GW returned to the hotel and gathered for team dinner at a local restaurant in Florence.
- The team heads to Rome tomorrow for a full day in the capital with views of the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.

DAY 2 - ITALY
- After team breakfast, GW women's basketball departed for Pisa to tour the infamous ‘Leaning Tower of Pisa’
- The team and support staff climbed all 296 steps to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and took in extraordinary views of Pisa, Italy.
- The team then had the opportunity to explore the local city, enjoying traditional Italian sandwiches and gelato.
- After the bus ride back to Florence, short time was allotted for the team to explore the city before heading to team dinner in Florence.
- GW will play its first of two games while on tour tomorrow at 6 p.m. local time and 12 p.m. EST.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa
DAY 1 - ITALY
- GW women's basketball traveled from Washington, DC to Rome, Italy, arriving on Sunday, August 13.
- Following a quick welcome breakfast, GW took a train to Florence for a guided walking tour through the Italian city, which included an Accademia Tour, featuring Michaelangelo's David masterpiece.
- Day one in Italy also included the team's first gelato stop.
- After nearly a full day in Florence, the team checked into their hotel and enjoyed a team dinner of Italian pizza and pasta before getting ready to head to the Leaning Tower of Pisa on Monday!
