WASHINGTON – GW women's basketball head coach Caroline McCombs announced the signing of graduate transfer Madison Buford on Friday.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Buford comes to the District after spending two seasons at Hampton. Prior to her time with the Pirates, Buford played one season at Colorado and spent the 2019-20 season at Rend Lake College.
"Maddie is a strong, physical guard that we are excited to add to our backcourt," said McCombs. "She is a veteran player that brings a scorer's mentality from the perimeter."
"We look forward to welcoming Maddie to Foggy Bottom this summer."
Buford played in 55 games, making 27 starts across two seasons at Hampton, averaging 9.2 ppg and 3.6 rpg. In 2022-23, Buford led her team to a first-round CAA Championship victory over Delaware, scoring a career-high 22 points in 24 minutes of action.
Buford finished the 2022-23 campaign with a team-leading 38 3-pointers with a .299 3-point field goal percentage. The guard capped her Pirates career with 56 3-pointers behind a .305 clip from beyond the arc.
Buford is the second transfer addition to the program, joining Maren Durant, whose commitment was announced in April.
