WASHINGTON - GW softball made its first move of the offseason on Tuesday, welcoming Harvard graduate transfer Allison Heffley to GW, Head Coach Chrissy Schoonmaker announced. Heffley, an All-Ivy League catcher and utility, comes to GW with two years of remaining eligibility.
"We are thrilled to welcome Ally to GW softball and we believe she will make an immediate impact," Schoonmaker said. "Ally brings a wealth of experience with her to Foggy Bottom having led her team to an NCAA appearance this past year."
Heffley, originally from Lemoore, Calif., joins the Buff and Blue after playing 98 games across three seasons for the Crimson, and brings with her a .325 AVG, along with a .408 OBP, .913 OPS and 50 RBI.
"Ally is a veteran player, an incredible teammate and she has shined in both the classroom and on the ballfield. I've seen first hand the work that Ally puts into her craft and she has a deep commitment to excellence and to her teammates," said Schoonmaker.
Heffley started all but one game in her career at Harvard. She started all ten games of her rookie season and was batting .517 before the season was cut short due to Covid-19. Heffley did not compete in 2021 due to the Ivy League's season being canceled.Â
Heffley had a breakout junior season, finishing the year with a .293 AVG, 1.000 fielding percentage, 19 RBI, and she earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy League. Heffley had a team-high three triples and finished tied with a team-high five doubles in 2022, while also drawing 19 free bases to help bolster her .393 OBP.
In her senior season, Heffley started all 47 games for Harvard and earned NFCA All-Region First Team, Honorable Mention All-Ivy, and she won Ivy League Player of the Week three times. Heffley hit .315 as a senior and led Harvard with three triples and 13 doubles.Â
Heffley studied Economics at Harvard and has been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team and as an NFCA Scholar-Athlete.
"The Buff and Blue got better today and we look forward to seeing Ally continue to shine at GW," said Schoonmaker.
