Colonials finish season at 16-16
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - After earning a first-round bye and the No. 7 seed in the conference tournament for the second season in a row, GW men's basketball ran into a high-scoring Saint Joseph's squad coming in with momentum after a first-round win yesterday against Loyola Chicago and subsequently fell, 87-76.
James Bishop IV concluded his sterling season with a team-high 25 points, as the A-10's leading scorer and First Team All-Conference selection closes a stretch at GW, with still a season of eligibility remaining, that ranks among the best three-year stints in program history, with a shot at becoming GW's all-time leading scorer potentially in his future.
Third Team All-Conference honoree and A-10 Most Improved Player Brendan Adams wrapped a remarkable final collegiate season with 14 points, while senior Ricky Lindo Jr. went out in double-double style with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Joe's Erik Reynolds II was just too much to overcome as his 34 points, including a perfect 12-of-12 performance at the free throw line, came at the right times to thwart any threats that George Washington tried to make late. He also grabbed six rebounds and had four assists in the full 40:00 of floor time.
The Buff & Blue had the game within three points on a trio of occasions within the last five minutes, but could get no closer.
The game featured seven ties and 13 lead changes, and both squads held double-digit leads, though the Hawks' didn't come until the closing seconds. GW enjoyed a 90.5% free throw performance, but its .185 mark from three-point range (5-of-27) wasn't good enough.
GW's season ends at an even 16-16 and with the team's most A-10 wins since 2016-17.
