Colonials to play four games on The Vern this week
WASHINGTON - GW softball returns home this week for four games at the GW Softball Field on The Mount Vernon Campus. The Buff and Blue host Georgetown on Wednesday (3:00 p.m.) followed by an A-10 series against Dayton on Saturday (2:00 & 4:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12 p.m.). Sunday's game against Dayton will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
POWER ON DISPLAY
The Colonials launched five home runs last weekend between games two and three against Saint Louis - the most in any series or two-game stretch this season. Each home run was hit by a different player, including the first career home runs for first-years Daniella Lew and Reese Torres. Maggie Greco deposited her first of the season, while Sidney Torres hit her second this year and Ashley Corpuz hit her team-high fourth of the campaign.
WELCOMING THE HOYAS
The Colonials host Georgetown on Wednesday for the second time under Coach Schoonmaker. GW holds an 8-7 advantage in the all-time series against the Hoyas, including last year's 8-7 victory on The Vern.
The Hoyas are 7-20 this year including a 3-6 record against Big East competition.
Cameron Kondo leads Georgetown at the plate this season with 27 RBI - 15 more than the next Hoya - and a .295 batting average.
Julia Parker and Brooke Plonka have been Georgetown's go-to options on the mound this year, each with 11 starts. Plonka (4-7) has a 4.52 ERA and has held opponents to a .238 average at the plate this season, while Parker (1-8) has a 6.51 ERA.
DAYTON ON DECK
Dayton is making the trip to Washington this weekend with the all-time series with GW tied at 24 apiece. With a three-game series due up this weekend, one of the progams will leave with bragging rights to the all-time record. GW is 4-0 against Dayton under Coach Schoonmaker, including an 8-0 victory in last year's A-10 Championship tournament.Â
The Flyers are 15-11 this season and 2-1 in the A-10. Dayton won its series against UMass, 2-1, this past weekend after its conference opening series against Fordham was postponed.
The Flyers have two players batting well over .400 this year - Maddie Kapsimalis (.490) and Emma Schutter (.459). The duo combines for nearly a third of the Flyers' runs this year.
Izzy Kemp and Dwyer Haven are Dayton's top options on the mound. Kemp (6-4) has a 1.04 ERA, while Haven (8-2) has a 2.50 ERA.
