Softball Takes Down Saint Louis, 3-2, in Series Finale

Rose Cano picks up her 10th win of the season
ST. LOUIS - GW softball defeated Saint Louis, 3-2, in Sunday's series finale at the Billikens Sports Complex. The Colonials handed the Billikens their first A-10 loss of the year, as Rose Cano picked up her 10th win of the season while holding Saint Louis to just two runs.
Cano pitched all seven innings while only allowing two runs and became the second pitcher in the A-10 to reach 10 wins this season.
The Billikens grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second inning after an RBI groundout following a lead-off double.
It took GW until the fourth inning to respond, but with one runner aboard and Daniella Lew up to bat, Lew gave GW its first lead of the afternoon with her first career home run. Lew's homer was GW's fifth of the weekend - the most hit in any series by GW this season.
SLU answered back and tied the game in the fifth on a single into center which sent the game into the seventh inning all knotted up.
Sidney Torres led off the seventh with a lead-off walk and reached third after Lew reached on an error. Arizona Ritchie was then hit by a pitch which loaded the bases for Maggie Greco, who singled through the left side of the infield for what would go on to be the game-winning run.
Saint Louis got its first batter aboard in the bottom of the seventh, but Cano shut the door and clinched the win for GW by retiring the next three batters.

The Buff and Blue return to The Vern on Wednesday to host crosstown rival Georgetown. First pitch at the GW Softball field is set for 3 p.m. between the Colonials and Hoyas.Â
