EMMITSBURG, Md. - Rose Cano set down 10 Mountaineers' batters on strikes, but GW softball fell to Mount St. Mary's, 2-1, in eight innings on Wednesday afternoon. GW drops to 10-10 on the season, and Cano falls to 9-4 despite an excellent performance in the circle.
Today's contest was a pitchers' duel through and through. Both Cano and Mountaineers' pitcher Avery Neuhart brought their A-games this afternoon and were the only two pitchers featured today, as Cano struck out 10 and walked just one batter, while Neuhart set down eight and walked one.
Ashley Corpuz had a game-high three hits and scored GW's only run in the third inning off an RBI double into right-center field which brought home Daniella Lew.
The Mountaineers found an equalizer in the sixth inning and later clinched the win with an RBI single in the eighth.
GW will head to the 'Gateway to the West' this weekend for a three-game series against Saint Louis. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. ET.
