Edwards Tabbed A-10 Rookie of the Week for Fifth Time

First-year helped lead GW to a pair of victories last week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW redshirt freshman Maximus Edwards continued one of the best rookie seasons in Buff & Blue history by earning his fifth A-10 Rookie of the Week award, the league announced on Monday. He is the first Colonial with five Rookie of the Week awards since SirValiant Brown in 1999-00.
Edwards' efforts aided the Colonials' wins at Rhode Island and over La Salle to run the team's win streak to three in a row. The Stratford, Conn., native tallied 11.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.0 spg while shooting 47% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc. He also played 76 of a possible 85 minutes in the two contests.
Edwards recorded 15 points in Wednesday's OT road victory, connecting on 6-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. He added five rebounds and four assists while playing 42 of 45 minutes. Edwards then added seven points and six boards in GW's triumph over La Salle on Saturday.
The leading candidate for A-10 Rookie of the Year, Edwards tops all conference rookies in points per game (10.8), rebounds per game (6.6) and minutes played (33.2). He also ranks among the A-10's top freshmen in steals (3rd) and assists (6th).
