Edwards Earns Fourth A-10 Rookie of the Week Honor

GW redshirt freshman averaged a double-double in two games
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW men's basketball redshirt freshman Maximus Edwards was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday.
Edwards' four recognitions are tied with St. Bonaventure's Yann Farrell for the most in the conference this season. He is the first Colonial to earn four rookie weekly accolades since SirValiant Brown (6 awards) and Chris Monroe (4) combined for 10 in the 1999-2000 season.
Buoyed by a record-setting showing on Wednesday vs. Richmond, Edwards averaged a double-double of 11.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg in GW's two games, adding 2.5 steals per game and 1.5 assists per game while playing 40.9 minutes per contest.
On Wednesday vs. the Spiders, Edwards played 43 of a possible 50 minutes and secured his third carer double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. He tied the GW school record (since 1986-87) with 15 defensive rebounds in the process.
He then added 11 points and eight rebounds on Saturday at Saint Joseph's, nabbing a career-high four steals in 39 minutes of action.
Edwards has reached double figures in nine straight games for the Colonials and is the A-10's top rookie in points per game (11.0) and rebounds per game (6.4).
GW returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Revolutionary Rival George Mason at the Smith Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m. with coverage available on NBC Sports Washington.
