WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball head coach Chris Caputo announced the signing of Ty Bevins to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, further entrenching the Buff & Blue's focus on DMV products.
"When our staff came to GW, we made it clear we wanted to recruit the very best players in the DMV. Ty Bevins is just that," Caputo said. "Ty combines great positional size with a versatile skill set. He can defend multiple positions, comes from a basketball family, and is one of the youngest players in his class. Most importantly, Ty possesses great character and a true passion for the game."
Bevins hails from Clinton, Md., and is the son of Myron Bevins and Tiffany Miller-Bevins who enjoyed a standout Division I career at Maryland Eastern Shore. Ty has charted his own path playing for head coach Rob Garner at Gwynn Park High School, where he has earned a host of accolades. As a sophomore in 2021-22, Bevins earned Team MVP honors and garnered Second Team All-Prince George's County accolades. Last season, he blossomed into a First Team All-PG County and Washington Post All-Met selection in addition to repeating as Team MVP.
Bevins, who stands 6'5" and 190 lbs, paced Gwynn Park with 12.6 ppg last year, shooting at a 52% clip from the floor while also dishing out 2.4 apg. He also plays in the AAU circuit with New World Basketball.
Bevins is a consensus 3-star recruit nationally and rated as one of the top five players in the state of Maryland in the Class of 2024. He chose GW over offers from Georgetown, Temple and George Mason, among others.
