Buff & Blue to host 18 games, make nine appearances on national TV
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball announced the schedule for Coach Chris Caputo's first season on Wednesday, featuring a non-conference tournament in Hawai'i and nine total games on national television. The Colonials will play at 18 times in the Charles E. Smith Center, including a preseason exhibition, eight non-conference home games and nine matchups with Atlantic 10 foes.
Buff & Blue fans will have their first chance to meet and greet the 2022-23 team at GW Hoops Fest on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 4-6 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to select their seats for the upcoming year, play knockout on the Smith Center floor, interact with players from the men's and women's programs and take part in a Q&A with select student-athletes and coaches.
Following a public exhibition against Western Connecticut State on Sunday, Oct. 30, the Buff & Blue will officially begin the Coach Caputo era on Monday, Nov. 7 against Virginia State. GW will play six home games in the season's first month, including matchups with Howard (Friday, Nov. 11), Maryland Eastern Shore (Friday, Nov. 18), UC San Diego (Tuesday, Nov. 22) and New Hampshire (Saturday, Nov. 26).
The marquee matchup of the home non-conference slate comes on Wednesday, Nov. 30 with a nationally-televised matchup against South Carolina on CBS Sports Network. The Gamecocks feature consensus top-10 recruit GG Jackson and mark the first "Power 5" opponent to visit Foggy Bottom since No. 6 Miami in December 2017.
The Buff & Blue will also host local foes American (Saturday, Dec. 10) and Coppin State (Tuesday, Dec. 13) as part of the non-conference docket and travel to Hofstra (Monday, Nov. 14) and Radford (Sunday, Dec. 4).
GW will also take part in the previously announced Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic with its opening game against Washington State on Thursday, Dec. 22.
Conference play begins on New Year's Eve as GW will visit Loyola Chicago in the Ramblers inaugural Atlantic 10 contest. Following a trip to defending conference tournament champion Richmond (Wednesday, Jan. 4), the Buff & Blue will welcome in Frank Martin and the Massachusetts Minutemen for the A-10 home opener on Saturday, Jan. 7 in a game televised on USA Network.
GW will host games on three consecutive Saturdays in January, entertaining Saint Louis (Jan. 14) and Dayton (Jan. 21, USA Network) sandwiched around a Martin Luther King Jr. Day trip to Fairfax to battle George Mason (Jan. 16) on CBS Sports Network.
