Water Polo Sweeps Weekly MAWPC Awards

Castorina, Pateros and Stellet honored after 3-0 weekend
WASHINGTON - GW men's water polo nabbed all three of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference's weekly awards, it was announced on Tuesday. For the second straight week, Theodoros Pateros was named the league's Player of the Week and was joined this week by Defensive Player of the Week Luca Castorina and Rookie of the Week Mateus Stellet.
Pateros, a graduate transfer from Long Beach State, continued the incredible start to his Buff & Blue tenure with 15 goals in three games at the Princeton Invitational. The Glyfada, Greece, native scored a season-high six goals against Cal Lutheran on Saturday and has now posted at least three goals in all seven matches en route to a team-leading 30 goals.
Castorina earns Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and fifth time in his career. The junior from Sicily held a .571 save percentage and piled up 40 saves in GW's three matches, including a 20-save performance against Cal Lutheran. His 10 saves against St. Francis Brooklyn were also critical to GW's overtime win vs. the ranked Terriers.
Stellet was key for the Buff & Blue in their win over Iona, contributing four goals and two assists. The Cal transfer found the back of the net seven times over the weekend and has totaled 13 goals in his first seven matches with GW.
The Colonials are off from action until September 24-25 when they'll compete in four matches as part of the CWPA Crossover Weekend.
