The Buff & Blue meet the Eagles Wednesday at 4 p.m.
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's soccer will hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday when it travels to northwest Washington, D.C., to face American. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. from Reeves Field, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
KEEP IT CLEAN:
Last time out against Towson, George Washington recorded its second-straight clean sheet. So far this year, the GW backline has allowed just one goal in 270 minutes, while holding opponents to just seven total shots on net. GW's defense has counted on the services of graduate student Cammie Dopke and first-year Avril Silva, as both Dopke and Silva are the only two players to see action in every minute so far this year.
On Wednesday against American, GW will look to lock down its third straight shutout. The last time that happened was September of 2016, when the Buff & Blue shutout UMBC, Delaware, and No. 17 Arkansas.
FITTING RIGHT IN:
In addition to Silva, GW has received a boost from several other newcomers. Defensively, Princeton transfer Aza Keohan has fit in early, starting three games on the backline. In the midfield, Marquette transfer Caitlin Cunningham has started back-to-back games for the Buff & Blue, and is currently fourth on the team with two shots. Finally, first-year Aoi Kataoka has seen action in both the midfield and attack through three games and has racked up 161 minutes played, which is 10th most on the roster.
SCOUTING AMERICAN:
The Eagles enter Wednesday's contest with a 1-1-1 record, but they are coming off a 1-0 victory at USF in their last match. The Eagles, who were picked to finish ninth in the Patriot League, return almost their entire starting lineup from last season, including graduate student Asia Horne. Horne was named to the 2022 Patriot League Preseason First Team and started all 16 games for the Eagles' defense last year.
