Softball graduate student honored for academic excellence
WASHINGTON - GW softball's Maddy Dwyer has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 First Team, the organization announced Thursday.
The graduate transfer via Stanford has been an excellent addition to the program for her final collegiate season, making a difference on and off the field. Earlier this week, she was named to the A-10 All-Academic Team.
On the diamond, Dwyer has been strong in the circle for the A-10 regular season champion Buff and Blue with eight wins and a 3.87 ERA over 88 2/3 innings across 18 outings, including shutouts vs. Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure. The Orange, Calif., native has also settled into a starting spot in right field, contributing offensively with 29 hits, highlighted by four doubles and three home runs, while playing error-free defense.
In the classroom, Dwyer posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in her first semester in the Media & Strategic Communications master's program. She has a summer internship lined up with The Center for Democracy and Technology focusing on non-profit communications.
It's the second time Dwyer has received Academic All-District honors after being named to the All-District 8 team while at Stanford in 2020.
This is the third consecutive year that GW has been represented on the All-District 2 list.
Following another round of voting considering representatives from all eight districts, CoSIDA plans to announce its Academic All-America honorees next month.
