Alford lands first coaching position after collegiate playing career
WASHINGTON – Nicole Alford has joined the GW volleyball staff as an assistant coach, Head Coach Katie Reifert announced on Thursday.Â
"I am excited to welcome Nicole to our staff," said Reifert. "Not only does she bring a high level of setting experience to our gym, but her passion for the game radiates through her. She is incredibly personable, and I know she will serve as a great mentor and motivator to our student-athletes."
A native of Annapolis, Md., Alford brings a wealth of collegiate playing experience as a setter at Georgia Tech (2017), Maryland (2018-21) and Missouri (2021).
Alford previously served as a Business Development Intern with Missouri's Athletic Department, where she was responsible for various expense projects and coordinated team travel expenditures. She will receive her graduate certificate in investments from Missouri in May.
During the fall with the Tigers, Alford played in 33 sets across 11 matches and tallied 274 assists, averaging 8.30 assists/set. Â
In her three seasons with the Terrapins, Alford dished out 2,037 assists, picked up All-Big Ten Academic honors in 2019 and 2020 and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2020. In addition, Alford registered 12 career double-doubles, including a then-career-high 52 assist double-double performance against Ohio State in 2021. In her first season with the Terps in 2018, Alford recorded 1,117 assists, the highest total for a Maryland player since 2011.
At Georgia Tech, Alford played in 21 matches as a first-year and tallied 270 assists, totaling four matches with 20-plus assists. Â
