Ditomaso extends hit streak to career-high 14 games
GW's offense continued to find a way to score runs early, beginning the game with a 1-0 lead courtesy of an RBI double by Anthony Frechette. It marked the fifth straight contest that the Colonials have pushed a run across in the opening inning. In the third, the Buff & Blue added three more runs and took a 4-0 lead into the bottom frame.
However, over the next three innings, Towson's offense was relentless. The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, before putting up back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth. In total, Towson scored eight straight runs on nine hits in the middle innings. The Tigers would put up one more run in the eighth and take a 9-5 lead into the final inning.
Reminiscent of the first meeting between these two sides, GW had a chance to tie the game up in the ninth. Steve DiTomaso got the Colonials within three with a solo homer. The home run was DiTomaso's first hit of the afternoon and extended his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games. Following DiTomaso's homer, Noah Levin and Frechette both reached on singles to bring the potential tying run to the plate before a double-play grounder ended the game.
Despite the loss, GW's offense continued to get knocks. Six different Colonials picked up a hit against Towson on Tuesday, including Levin and Frechette, who both had multi-hit afternoons.
Up next, GW will return to The Tuck for a weekend conference series with Dayton. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
