ARLINGTON, Va. - George Washington baseball capped off its prolific offensive weekend with another dominant performance Sunday, scoring 15 runs on a season-high 21 hits en route to a 15-2 victory over St. Bonaventure.
As was the case all weekend, GW struck first in the bottom of the first. Both Cade Fergus and Steve DiTomaso picked up hits to start the frame, extending their hitting streaks to 14 and 13 games, respectively. The duo would both come around to score, and GW would add another run to make it 3-0 early.
The Colonials' offense would continue to tack on runs in the middle innings, tagging the Bonnies for two in the fourth and one in the sixth. However, GW saved its biggest inning of the weekend for the seventh. In the frame, the Buff & Blue scored seven runs on seven hits while sending 11 batters to the plate. GW's runs came in a variety of ways, including a three-run homer from Joe Biancone, an RBI walk from Noah Levin and a pair of RBI singles.
Individually, every Colonial in Sunday's lineup recorded at least one hit. DiTomaso and Fergus continued their tear at the top of the lineup with four knocks a piece, while Derek Ripp collected three hits and had a pair of RBIs.
Even though the offense was Sunday's talking point, GW continued to get quality innings from its pitching. Sunday starter Justin Solt allowed just one run over six impressive innings while striking out four. GW also received scoreless outings from Jon Brus and Chris Knight.
Up next, GW will look to keep its win streak alive when it heads up to Towson for a midweek contest. First pitch between the Colonials and Tigers is scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m.
