GW concludes its season at Garber Field
AMHERST, Mass. – After earning its postseason bid as the No. 6 seed, GW lacrosse dropped its quarterfinal matchup to Saint Joseph's, 15-9, at Garber Field.
GW was selected to finish just shy of postseason action in the A-10's preseason poll but earned its conference championship berth with a tiebreaking 13-8 win over VCU last weekend.
The Buff & Blue met the Hawks in the opening round and were quickly greeted by the conference's Offensive Player of the Year, Lauren Figura, who opened up the scoring for her squad three minutes into the contest. Saint Joseph's tacked on another before Kendall Lambert struck first for the GW offense on a free-position attempt. Saint Joseph's added a pair in the final two minutes of the opening quarter to take an early 4-1 advantage.
Tori Hampton potted GW's lone goal of the second quarter. GW's defense held Saint Joseph's to a game-low two goals in the second frame and would head into the break down 6-2.
After a scoreless four minutes to begin the third quarter, Lambert found the back of the net for her second tally of the game, but four Saint Joseph's goals in the third put the contest out of reach. GW's offense had its most successful 15 minutes in the final frame, netting four goals, but a matched offense by the Hawks gave Saint Joseph's the second-round date with No. 2 Richmond.
Lizzie Heyn tied her career-high with two goals, and Amber Germer, Phoebe Mullarkey and Sophia Watkinson also scored for GW. In net, Megan Patrick made 10 saves on 25 shots faced.
