Track & Field Earns Pair of Wins, Breaks Two Records

Fowkes and Grant set new school marks
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Ryan Fowkes set the school record in the 1500m at the Virginia Challenge on Friday with a time of 3:45.56 to win his heat and finish 13th overall. Fowkes entered the race already owning the school record in the event and surpassed his previous mark by more than three seconds.
In addition to Fowkes, Margaret Coogan recorded a top-10 finish in the women's steeplechase.

BALTIMORE - GW put together an impressive performance at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Saturday with a pair of victories and a new school record.
Miles Grant competed in the long jump, setting a new school mark with a jump of 6.85m. Grant, who already held the school record in the event, broke his previous mark by .02 meters.
Thomas Sand brought home a victory in the men's 5K, and he did it in dominant fashion. Sand set the pace with a time of 14:39.47 and finished six seconds faster than the next closest competitor. Additionally, three more GW runners finished in the top-five. James Glockenmeier finished third in a time of 15:01.04, Lucas Brown came in fourth at 15:12.62 and Alex Longeway was fifth with a time of 15:20.00.
Finally, GW's second win came in the men's steeplechase. Logan Broedner captured the victory in a time of 9:12.63. The win was Broedner's first of the outdoor season, and his time was just two seconds off of his personal best.
