Double-digit performer from Penn joins GW
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball head coach Caroline McCombs announced the addition of Mia Lakstigala as a graduate transfer from Penn. Lakstigala is the first transfer addition to the Buff & Blue's 2022-23 roster.
"We are thrilled that Mia has decided to join our GW family for her final year of eligibility. Her background from Penn, both on and off the court, will continue to elevate our program," McCombs said. "Mia brings so much valuable experience to us. She is a tireless worker who has improved in every statistical category throughout her career. She has tremendous length to play multiple positions, and she can shoot the ball extremely well."
Lakstigala was a team captain and mainstay in the Quakers' lineup last season, starting 22 games while averaging new career-highs in points (10.9), rebounds (5.5), and assists (2.0).
The Naperville, Ill., native reached double figures in 12 games, including a four-game stretch to end the season that included a career-high 21-point performance against Brown. Additionally, Lakstigala's success last year earned her recognition as the Philadelphia Big 5's Most Improved Player.
Lakstigala now becomes the third new student-athlete who will be donning the Buff & Blue this fall, joining incoming first-years Nya Robertson and Caia Loving.
