Buff & Blue welcome Patriots to The Vern
GW softball continues its three-week homestand on Saturday, welcoming George Mason to the Mount Vernon Campus for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader beginning at noon.
All the action is set to be broadcast via ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW improved to 11-1 in Atlantic 10 play with a series win over Dayton last weekend.
After the Flyers took the opener, the Buff and Blue rebounded with back-to-back victories behind the tremendous pitching of Sierra Lange.
Lange handled all 21 innings in the series, finishing with a 0.67 ERA and 13 Ks. The veteran right-hander was named A-10 Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season for her efforts.
Mia Parker led the offense, slashing .429/.600/.857 on the weekend with her fourth home run of the season in Sunday's finale. Alessandra Ponce launched her third long ball of the spring and the 25th of her career in Saturday's game two win.
QUITE A CAREER:Â Lange's start on Sunday vs. Dayton was the 119th of her career, which ranks No. 2 among active D-I student-athletes nationally behind only Georgina Corrick of South Florida (129).
GW's long-time ace has 83 career victories representing the Buff and Blue, which currently ranks sixth in the country. She's also among the top 20 nationally in career complete games (79, fourth), innings pitched (729, sixth) and strikeouts (692, 18th).
All of those pitching marks are program records.
Offensively, Lange ranks 13th in triples (14), 31st in runs scored (149), 34th in hits (216) and 50th in total bases (333).
DYNAMITE DEFENSE:Â GW committed just one error across five games last week to boost its team fielding percentage to .977, best in the A-10 and good for 14th in the nation.Â
The Buff and Blue have totaled just 19 errors through 32 games, and they've been at their best in A-10 action, committing just three defensive miscues over the 12 contests so far while making a number of highlight-reel plays.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS:Â George Mason knocked off Towson, 6-4, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday to improve to 16-18 on the season. The Patriots sit seventh in the conference standings at 5-7.
Marlaina Bozek is the A-10's leading hitter at .400 on the season, while Carly Cooper leads the Mason staff in wins (seven), ERA (3.01) and strikeouts (48 in 76 2/3 innings).
