Buff & Blue secured 11th straight win
The Buff and Blue added a key insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to push their lead to three runs and then kept the visiting Hoyas from completing the comeback in the seventh. Maddy Dwyer tallied a swinging strikeout to end it, stranding a pair to record the save.
GW found a way to record its 11th straight victory and improve to 4-0 on its home field this spring.Â
After Georgetown hit a pair of solo home runs in the top of the first, the Buff and Blue answered back with three in the bottom of the inning, boosted by a two-run double from Maggie Greco, and then pushed their advantage to 7-2 in the third on a bases-loaded walk from Taylor Puig followed by a three-run triple from Sierra Lange.
After Georgetown edged closer with a three-run fifth, GW was able to add on in the bottom of the sixth. Mia Parker, Hannah Eslick and Maggie Greco reached in succession to set up Dwyer's RBI groundout that made it 8-5.
Georgetown plated two more on three hits in the seventh before Dwyer buckled down to extinguish the rally.
It was another strong team offensive effort for GW with eight different student-athletes scoring a run in the victory.
Eslick went 3-for-3 with a double, plus a walk, and Lange, Greco and Parker tallied two hits apiece.
Lange pitched the first six innings to improve to 13-5 on the season. The veteran right-hander allowed five runs on six hits with six Ks before turning it over to Dwyer to close out the W.
GW takes a break from competition this weekend before hosting Hampton next Wednesday in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
