ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Maggie Greco cracked a grand slam and Mia Parker slugged a two-run shot on Saturday as GW softball completed a dominant series sweep of St. Bonaventure with an 8-0 win in five innings at Joyce Field.
Sierra Lange silenced the Bonnies, ceding just a pair of hits in her 13th career shutout to tie Kara Clauss for the program record.
Now 9-0 in A-10 play, the Buff and Blue won all three games in the series via run-rule, outscoring St. Bonaventure 34-2 for the weekend. The visitors hit .415 as a team with 12 of 34 hits going for extra bases while limiting the Bonnies to two runs on 10 hits with 22 strikeouts in 16 innings.
On Saturday, GW used the long ball to stoke its offense. The Buff and Blue were up 1-0 in the third when Parker cleared the fence in left-center with her third homer of the season.
GW put the game out of reach with a five-run fifth highlighted by Greco's grand slam. Parker drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single, and after Hannah Eslick walked to load the bases, Greco cleared them with her first round-tripper of the season to set the final margin.
Parker led the offense, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Six different Colonials recorded hits and seven scored runs on the day.
In the series, all nine regulars batted at least .333, paced by Lange, Dwyer and Maddie Spell, who all hit an even .500.
Lange continued a terrific run in the circle, winning her sixth straight start to improve to 12-5 on the season. GW's ace ran into trouble in the fourth inning before escaping a bases-loaded, one-out jam with her shutout intact. She struck out six Bonnies on the day while walking a pair in her first solo shutout of the season.
GW will try for its 11th straight win on Wednesday when it welcomes crosstown foe Georgetown to the Mount Vernon Campus for a 3 p.m. start.
