Mike Ludowig tallies three hits against the Purple Eagles
ARLINGTON, Va. - On a gorgeous Friday afternoon at Tucker Field, GW baseball rode power pitching and timely hitting to its third straight victory, a 4-2 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles.
As has been the case the last five games, GW's victory stemmed from a sturdy performance from its starter. Harrison Cohen allowed just one run across six innings on Friday, while striking out a season-high nine batters. Cohen scattered five hits across his start, but the Buff & Blue pitcher rose to the occasion whenever he faced danger, including getting an inning-ending strike out in the second with a Niagara runner on third and a chance to take the lead.
GW's offense eventually rewarded Cohen in the sixth. Following back-to-back errors that allowed Ty Acker and Cade Fergus to reach base safely, Mike Ludowig drove Acker home with an RBI single to give GW a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Joe Biancone ripped a base hit to center that scored the final two runs.
Mike Ludowig finished the day 3-for-5, while seven other Colonials had at least one hit. Fergus continued his success from the leadoff spot, reaching base four times Friday and scoring two runs.
Trevor Kuncl pitched three innings to close out the win. GW's closer struck out four batters on the way to his second save of the season.
Up next, George Washington will face Niagara tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Tucker Field.
