Colonials aim to get to .500 in league play against Explorers
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday evening when it hosts La Salle at the Smith Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
UPDATED ATTENDANCE POLICY: In compliance with DC regulations and the citywide vaccine mandate for entertainment venues, fans ages 12-and-over entering the venue will need to show their proof of vaccination by one of the following methods:
* The CLEAR app, or VaxYes app on a mobile device
* Physical Center for Disease Control (CDC) vaccination card
* Digital copy of CDC vaccination card
There will be no on-site testing for fans 12-and-over. Fans ages 11-and-under can take a free Covid-19 rapid test to permit entrance at the lower gate #1 of the Smith Center.
The city has also reinstated the indoor mask mandate and GW staff will be enforcing this policy for all events at the Charles E. Smith Center.
THE REAL JB: Junior guard James Bishop followed up his first career 30-point game on Jan. 26 at Saint Louis by scoring 25 points against Fordham on Sunday. Bishop is averaging 27.5 ppg over the last two contests, shooting 49% from the floor, 50% from beyond the arc and 86% at the free throw line.
Bishop's 55 points in consecutive games were the most for a Colonial since Tyler Cavanaugh scored 56 points against Duquesne and UMass from Jan. 9-12, 2016. He is now up to fourth in the A-10 in scoring at 16.8 ppg a year after pacing all returners in the circuit with 19.1 ppg.
WELCOME BACK, RICKY: After missing three games with an injury, Ricky Lindo Jr. returned last Wednesday at Saint Louis, but got back in the groove on Sunday vs. Fordham with 10 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and seventh of his career. Five of Lindo's seven double-doubles have come in 11 games against A-10 foes.
DEFENSIVE WIZARD: Lindo is the only player in the A-10 to rank among the league's top 10 in defensive rebounds per game (6.1, 2nd), rebounds per game (8.0, 3rd), steals per game (1.8, 4th) and blocks per game (1.9, 7th). In fact, he is ranked among the top-100 nationally in all four categories: blocks (49th), defensive rebounds (54th), rebounds (83rd) and steals (100th).
A LOOK AT THE EXPLORERS: La Salle enters play on Wednesday having dropped eight of its last nine games and sitting in the cellar of the A-10 standings at 1-7. The lone win for the Explorers in that time frame was a double-digit comeback win at Saint Joseph's, 75-64, on Jan. 17.
The problem has primarily been on the offensive end as La Salle has scored more than 70 points in regulation just once in the nine-game stretch (71 vs. Massachusetts). The Explorers are 13th in the league in effective field goal percentage (46%) and 3-point percentage (27.6%) during A-10 games.
Clifton Moore, at 12.4 ppg, leads a trio of Explorers averaging double digits. Josh Nickelberry (12.1 ppg) and Jack Clark (10.4) also chip in more than 10 points per game.
