Home-and-home matchups with Maryland and a trip to Virginia among schedule highlights
WASHINGTON - GW baseball head coach Gregg Ritchie announced the schedule for the team's 2023 season, his 11th campaign at the helm of his alma mater.
This year's schedule will offer plenty of opportunities for fans to come catch a game at Tucker Field, as GDUB will play 16 home contests in February and March, followed by an additional 15 home games to close April and May, including 12 A-10 home games and a visit from Maryland on April 18th.
The Colonials will get 2023 underway when they open with a series against East Carolina on Feb. 17. Following the brief road trip to Greenville, N.C., the Colonials will return home to play their first game at The Tuck on Feb. 22nd against Maryland Eastern Shore. GW will also welcome Fairfield University to town on Friday, Feb. 24th for its first weekend series of the year.
In addition to Fairfield, GW will host three additional non-conference series this season, welcoming Binghamton (March 10-12), Niagara (March 17-19) and Manhattan (March 24-26) to the Tuck. In addition to its series against East Carolina, GW will also make a non-conference weekend trip to McNeese State (March 3 - March 5).
Conference play features four home weekends and four road series, starting March 31st when GW travels to Dayton for a three-game set. The following weekend, the Colonials will begin their A-10 home slate by hosting Richmond (April 7-9). Rounding out GW's home conference schedule will be VCU (April 21-23), Davidson (April 28-April 30) and George Mason (May 12-14). GW will travel to Fordham (April 14-16), Saint Louis (May 5-7) and St. Bonaventure (May 18-20).
In mid-week action, the Buff & Blue will take on Big Ten contender Maryland for the first time since 2016 when the two programs face-off in a home-and-home series (March 21/April 18). Maryland is coming off its best regular season in school history, winning a program-record 44 games along with its first-ever Big Ten Championship, and the Terps hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time ever in 2022.
GW will also face James Madison (Feb. 28/March 28), Towson (March 8/April 11) and Delaware (March 7/April 12) in a home-and-home series. Finally, the Colonials will play single games at Virginia (March 14), at William & Mary (April 25) and at UMBC (May 2) and home contests against Maine (March 15) and Georgetown (May 10).
The A-10 Championship is scheduled for May 23-27 in Richmond, Va., hosted by VCU. The Colonials will be looking to return to the tournament for the first time since the 2018 season.
