Fowkes sets new school record in Men’s 8K
LAKE KRISTI, N.C. – In its final tune-up before the A-10 Championships, George Washington men's and women's cross country put together an impressive performance at the ECU Invitational. The effort included a first-place team finish for the men, a new school record in the men's 8,000-meter, and a third-place team finish for the women's program.
In the men's 8K, senior Ryan Fowkes crossed the finish line in a time of 24:18.21. The East Hampton, N.Y. native smashed the Buff & Blue's all-time mark, set by Ryan Tucker, by more than eight seconds. It is the second-straight week that Fowkes has set a new personal-best time in the 8K. Fowkes now owns GW records in the 8K, as well as the 800m and 1500m runs.
Meanwhile, the women's program had four runners finish in the top 20 on its way to a third-place team finish. Sophomore Olivia Syftestad led the way with an eighth-place individual finish, posting time of 22:07.41.
