MAYOWA GETS BOARDS
On Saturday against UMass, Mayowa Taiwo pulled in a team-high 13 rebounds. For Taiwo, it marked the second time that she has had 13 boards in a game (12/5 vs. Virginia), and her 13 rebounds are the second-most by a Colonial in the game this year.
Additionally, Saturday marked the third time this season that Taiwo had double-digit rebounds in a game. This ties her career high for double-digit rebounding games in a season. Currently, Taiwo's 6.9 rpg is the highest rebounding average of her career.
COLONIALS KEEP SWIPING
On Saturday, GW continued to show a knack for getting takeaways, stealing the ball 11 times against UMass. For GW, its 11 steals were the second most in a game this year (13 vs. West Chester, 12/28), and were the most in an A-10 regular season game since the team had 15 against George Mason last February 28th.
Currently, GW is ranked fourth in the A-10 in steals per game, averaging 7.65, while Sheslanie Laureano, who leads GW with 22 steals this season, is ranked ninth in the A-10 in steals per game (1.7).
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
Davidson entered the 2021-22 season picked 11th in the A-10 preseason poll. After a non-conference stretch that saw the Wildcats go 9-3, Davidson began A-10 play with back-to-back wins at St. Bonaventure and against Duquesne. Since then, the Wildcats have lost three straight games against VCU, Fordham, and Rhode Island.
The Wildcats are led by preseason A-10 Third Team selection Suzi-Rose Deegan, who is averaging just under 13 points nightly (12.8), and redshirt sophomore Elle Sutphin, who leads the team in scoring with 13.1 ppg and is third in the A-10 in field goal percentage (.534).
HISTORY AGAINST THE WILDCATS
Davidson is far and away the A-10 opponent which GW has the least amount of history against, having met just eight times since Davidson joined the conference in 2014. GW won its first four meetings against the Wildcats before Davidson took home three straight wins from 2019 to 2021. The last game between the sides was on February 18th, 2021 at the Smith Center, and in that contest GW saw four scorers hit double-digits en route to a 59-44 victory over Davidson.
