Coogan earns individual win as Buff & Blue post 12 top-10 finishes

EMMITSBURG, Md. - GW cross country opened up its season in dominant fashion on Friday morning, winning both the men's and women's 5k duals at Mount St. Mary's. In the process, the GW women posted the first perfect score in program history.

NOTEWORTHY

• GW's men won the event for the third time in the last five occasions. It was the program's first team victory since the same event in 2018.

• In his Buff & Blue debut, Thomas Sand led the men with a second-place finish in a time of 15:53.30.

• James Glockenemeier and Alex Longeway posted PR times, finishing third and sixth overall, respectively.

• Kevin Conlon and Pierce Kapustka, both making their 5k debut, recorded top-10 finishes as well in fourth and 10th, respectively.

• The GW women left the rest of the field in the proverbial dust, taking the top six positions and seven of the top nine.

• The women won the Mount St. Mary's duals for the first time in program history and won a team event for the first time since 2015.

• Margaret Coogan earned the individual win for the first time in her cross country career in a time of 18:33.78. Fellow spring All-Conference honorees Peri Pavicic and Kathryn Nohilly finished second and fifth, respectively.

• Two first-years, Olivia Syftestad and Megan Gonzalez, came in third and sixth, while graduate transfer Julia Dempsey finished fourth.
