The Colonials will resume A-10 play with two games this week
WASHINGTON - GW women's soccer will look to build off of their impressive first win when they take on a pair of A-10 opponents this week. The Buff & Blue will start by facing UMass at home on Thursday at 3 p.m., before hitting the road to battle Saint Louis on Sunday at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW looked impressive on both sides of the ball en route to their first win of the season, 3-1, against Richmond. The Colonials' offense was fueled by Elizabeth Cruz, Madi Coyne, and Alicia Window, who each scored their first goal of the season.
GW IS BLUE: Alicia Window's goal on Sunday came off a beautiful assist from fellow first-year Amelia Booth, and marked the first time this season that GW's Manchester Connection struck paydirt. The pair of Englishwomen are no strangers to taking the pitch together, having played for years alongside one another in Manchester City's Youth Academy. The duo even tasted championship glory when they won the U16 FA Cup with City in 2018, a feeling they'll surely look to recreate with an A-10 title during their time in the Buff & Blue.
ABOUT UMASS: The Minutewomen enter Thursday's game at 6-2-3 and 2-0-1 in A-10 play. Their most recent contest was a 1-1 double overtime draw against Rhode Island that saw UMass open the scoring two minutes into the contest, then failing to break through after that. UMass' main offensive threat is first-year sensation Chandler Pedolzky, who currently leads the team in both goals and points.
ABOUT SAINT LOUIS: The Billikens are 4-6-1 on the season, but boast a 2-1-0 record in conference play. Last time out, Saint Louis hosted La Salle in their third A-10 match-up. The Billikens took the lead in the 48th minute thanks to a goal by Lyndsey Heckel and they never looked back, winning the contest, 2-0. Saint Louis' offense has had numerous contributors this year, with four players having scored at least two goals.
