Women's Soccer Opens Up A-10 Play at VCU

WASHINGTON - GW women's soccer will get their first crack at an A-10 opponent Sunday when they head down to Richmond to take on VCU at 2 p.m.
ABOUT LAST WEEK: The Colonials dropped a pair of matches to close out their non-conference slate, falling at Towson, 1-0, and at Penn, 4-0. Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky continued to lead the GW attack with five shots in the two contests.
STRONG SECOND HALVES: Despite the two losses GW showed encouraging signs in the final 45 minutes against Towson and Penn. The Colonials registered six or more shots in the second half of both contests, and combined to outshoot their opponents, 14-13, during the final 45 minutes of the two games.
VALUABLE EXPERIENCE IN GOAL: During Sunday's match, goalkeepers Erica Lorenzana and Ainsley Lumpe saw their first minutes of action this season, meaning all three Buff & Blue keepers have now gained valuable in-game experience. Junior Tamaki Machi continues to lead Colonial goalkeepers with 700 minutes played and 42 saves.
ABOUT VCU: The Rams enter Sunday's contest at 4-2-0 on the year, but are coming off of a 2-0 loss to East Carolina in their last contest. Redshirt Senior Emma Kershner has two goals this year to lead the Rams, while redshirt senior Samantha Jerabek has contributed five points to pace VCU's offense
Last Season v. VCU: The Colonials split their season series with the Rams, dropping the first contest at GW Soccer Field, 2-1, before rebounding with a 1-0 win at VCU. Junior Tori Minda scored the game-winning goal in the Colonials' victory over the Rams.
