Isabelle Eskay scores first goal of the season in effort
RICHMOND, Va. - Despite battling hard for 107 minutes, GW wasn't able to keep the Rams off the scoresheet in double overtime, falling, 3-2, at VCU to open up A-10 play.
Despite the loss, there were good signs offensively for the Colonials, who were able to find the back of the net for the first time in three contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 29th Minute: The Rams struck first when Aileen Gutherie found the bottom right of the goal with a left footed strike. Anna Bagley assisted on the Rams' opening goal.
• 32nd Minute: The Buff & Blue didn't wait long before tying up the contest, with Isabelle Eskay beating Rams' goalkeeper Grace Young with a right footed strike to the bottom left corner of the net. Isabelle Buck earned the assist on Eskay's strike.
• 48th Minute: Kelly Amador scored her second of the season to start the second 45 minutes. Her right footed strike, which was assisted by Maria Pareja, found the top right corner of the goal.
• 77th Minute: VCU tied the game thanks to a right footed strike by Bri Kropinack. Kropinack's tying goal was assisted by Ella Higgins.
• 107th Minute: With the clock winding down in double overtime, Samantha Jerabek was able to score the golden goal that gave VCU the win. Her right footed shot just beat goalkeeper Tamaki Machi to the right side of the goal.
NOTEWORTHY
• The Colonials were able to withstand a strong opening half by VCU that saw the Rams outshoot GW, 12-2, and outcorner them, 4-0.
• Isabelle Eskay's goal was her first since 2019, when she scored against La Salle (9/22).
• Tamaki Machi stood tall on Sunday, making 10 saves in the contest.
• Four different Colonials registered a shot for the second time in three games.
• VCU led the match in shots, 32-6, shots on goal, 13-2, and corner opportunities 10-2.
