The Colonials will face off against the Rams on Thursday afternoon
WASHINGTON - GW women's soccer is back in action on Thursday when it travels to Rhode Island for an A-10 matchup. It's a 3 p.m. kickoff at the URI Soccer Complex.
LAST TIME OUT: Despite withstanding a barrage of shots in regulation, GW lost a double-overtime heartbreaker at VCU, 3-2, on Sunday. Kelly Amador and Isabelle Eskay each found the back of the net in the match, while Tamaki Machi registered 10 saves.
OFFENSIVE BREAKOUT: Based on recent trends, the Colonials' offense seems poised for a breakout. The Buff & Blue have had at least four student-athletes record a shot in five straight contests, and they are coming off of their first two-goal game since August.
SCOUTING THE RAMS: URI heads into Thursday's matchup with a record of 2-4-1 but was victorious in its A-10 opener against Davidson, 1-0. Tori O'Leary, URI's leading goal scorer, found the back of the net just one minute into the match, and the Rams' defense was able to hold the lead for the remaining 89 minutes.
PREVIOUSLY AGAINST RHODE ISLAND: While GW didn't face off against the Rams last season, its most recent result from 2019 is encouraging. Rachel Sorkenn scored a brace and goalkeeper Tamaki Machi made three saves for her first-ever clean sheet to help the Colonials roll to a 2-0 win
UP NEXT: The Colonials return home to GW Soccer Field to face Richmond on Sunday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m.
