Buff and Blue to wrap up non-conference slate
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball will play in its final non-conference tournament on Thursday and Friday, taking on West Virginia, UMBC and Robert Morris as part of the Mountaineer Invitational.
GW opens up the tournament with a 12:30 p.m. contest on Thursday vs. the host Mountaineers. On Friday, the Buff and Blue will play a pair of matches starting with UMBC at 1:30 p.m. and Robert Morris at 4:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
GW went 0-2 at the Dig the District Invitational last weekend, dropping matches to Loyola (Md.) and Maryland Eastern Shore.
In Saturday's match vs. the Hawks, Addie Feek set a new career-high with 11 kills on 17 attempts. Feek also stood tall at the net, denying the Hawks' offense four times. Noelle Dwyer set a career-high with six kills. Salem Yohannes tied her career-high with 18 kills and added a pair of aces and a block.
Defensively, Bella Bowman registered 35 digs across the two matches, adding to her team-leading total of 124. Lauren LaBeck assisted on 41 total attacks last weekend and has now tallied 168 assists on the season. LaBeck and Bowman were both named to the Dig the District All-Tournament Team. Â
MATCHUP WITH THE MOUNTAINEERSÂ
West Virginia is 8-0 on the season and most recently notched three wins at the WNY Invitational over American, Canisius and Buffalo. Briana Lynch leads the Mountaineer offense with 92 kills, while setter Lacey Zerwas leads with 284 assists. Alexa Hasting owns the top spot defensively with 126 digs, averaging 4.85 digs/s. GW holds a 22-8 record all-time vs. West Virginia, with the most recent matchup coming in 2018.

UMBC sits at 3-8 on the season, with its three wins coming vs. UT Rio Grande Valley, Quinnipiac and Howard. Libero Loren Teter was most recently named the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week for the second time this season. Teter averaged 18 digs/match last week and has accounted for 186 digs this season to earn the honor. Outside hitter, Mia Bilusic, leads the offense with 89 kills. Historically, GW holds a 22-2 record vs. the Retrievers.

Robert Morris is 6-3 and recently tallied a pair of wins at the George Mason Invitational vs. Coppin State and Morgan State. Abby Ryan leads the RMU offense with 101 kills. Friday will mark the first time GW and RMU have met since 2003. The two programs have met only twice, with each team owning one victory apiece.
