Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -Â For the second straight year, GW volleyball has been recognized by the United States Marine Corps and American Volleyball Coaches Association with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.Â
The award recognizes collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average. GW accumulated a 3.73 team GPA over both semesters this past year and as a result, earned a spot on the organization's Honor Roll for being among the top 20% of GPAs at the Division I level.

"As the Academic Advisor for the GW Women's Volleyball Team, I have had the privilege of working with a group of students who are deeply committed to academic excellence and take pride in their individual achievements as well as their team's accomplishments," said Ellen Carter Woodbridge. "I congratulate them on winning the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for two years in a row."
The Honor Roll accolade puts GW among the top 50 Division I programs in regards to GPA. In total, 1,275 teams across NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, along with two- and four-year colleges and high schools, earned the honor.
All 13 members of the team also earned a spot on the A-10 Honor Roll for achieving at least a 3.0 GPA during the 2020-21 academic year. Paz Dozie-Nnamah and Markella Lanara each posted a 4.0 GPA in at least one of the semesters this year.
