Softball Takes Two at St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - GW softball rolled to a pair of run-rule victories at St. Bonaventure on Saturday to begin its final series of the regular season.
The Buff and Blue took the opener 11-1 in five innings before adding a 13-0 victory in five frames.
The visitors put their nationally-ranked offense on full display, totaling 24 runs on 30 hits for the day, highlighted by five home runs. Alexa Williams (5-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs) and Jenna Cone (3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs and five runs) led the way.
Now 21-1 in A-10 play, GW is in position to close out the conference regular season title on Sunday.
GW 11, St. Bonaventure 1 (5 innings):Â The Buff and Blue scored in every inning of the opener to set the tone for the day.
Cone went deep twice to pace an offense that pounded out 11 hits, seven of them for extra-bases, across the five frames.
Cone got the visitors off to a quick start, blasting a two-run shot in the top of the first inning. Williams added an RBI single later in the first and then came through with a bases-loaded double in the second to push the lead to 6-0 before Faith Weber scored her with an RBI double.
Jessica Linquist and Cone homered back-to-back in the third to make it 9-0, and Weber stroked her 12th long ball of the season in the fourth to finish the impressive power display.
Cone finished 2-for-2 with two walks, plus three RBIs and three runs scored. Williams drove in four runs with her pair of hits, and Weber and Linquist both contributed a double and a homer.
Sierra Lange, meantime, blew through the St. Bonaventure batting order, recording 12 of 15 outs via strikeout. The redshirt junior hurler ceded a run on four hits on the way to her 16th victory of the season. It was her third straight start recording double-digit Ks.
GW 13, St. Bonaventure 0 (5 innings):Â After a scoreless opening inning, the Buff and Blue exploded for seven runs in the second inning and six more in the third to bury the Bonnies.
In the second, Sidney Bloomfield, Linquist and Cone provided run-scoring hits for the Buff and Blue before Alessandra Ponce made it 7-0 with a three-run homer.
An inning later, the first six hitters reached base as the Colonials added on. Linquist provided a two-run single, and then Lange, Ponce and Hannah Eslick added RBIs, as well.
Williams and Amber Lotz had three hits apiece, while Weber and Linquist both recorded their second multi-hit efforts of the day.
Ponce's homer was her ninth of the season, and she now ranks second on the club with 44 RBIs.
Weber and Megan Osterhaus combined on the shutout, limiting the Bonnies to just three hits in the five innings. Weber improved to 13-1 by winning her fifth straight start.
