Colonials look to continue winning ways in A-10 play
WASHINGTON - GW baseball is set to make the short trek to George Mason this weekend for a four-game A-10 series. Due to a rainout Friday, the series will now start with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and another doubleheader on Sunday at a to be determined time. All four games will be available on ESPN+.
A LOOK AT THE A-10: Following its series split last weekend with Saint Louis, the Colonials (8-4) sit in second place in the A-10 South and just a game behind first-place VCU (9-3). Halfway through conference play, the Buff & Blue currently possess one of the four postseason spots with VCU as well as North Division leaders La Salle (9-3) and Saint Joseph's (8-4).
THE BEST AROUND: GW enters the weekend as one of the best hitting teams in the country with its .306 team batting average. While not threatening the overall team record (.350 in 1986), the Buff & Blue are tops in the A-10 and rank eighth in the NCAA. The overall team success has been aided by three Colonials ranking in the top seven of the A-10's batting race - Steve Barmakian (.368, 3rd), Steve DiTomaso (.367, 4th) and Noah Levin (.345, 7th).
The Buff & Blue also lead the country with 31 sacrifice flies, including seven from Domenic Boselli, one off the nation's individual high.
KEEP IT ROLLING: GW's 8-4 conference mark is its best through 12 games since 2018 as it looks for a third series win this weekend. In A-10 games, GW is hitting .314 as a team compared to just .240 for its opponents. Anthony Frechette, who has been behind the dish for all 96 innings, leads the team offensively with a .400 average and .463 OBP. Overall, six Colonials are hitting at least .333 in league play while the pitching staff has held its own with a 4.41 staff ERA.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS: George Mason enters the weekend on a seven-game losing streak after being swept in four games at VCU last weekend. The Patriots are 2-10 in conference play with their wins coming in the opening game of the series vs. Saint Louis and Dayton. The Patriots are ninth in the league in hitting at .253, but have struggled on the mound to the tune of a 7.04 team ERA that ranks 13th in the circuit. Scott Morgan has been the team's top offensive threat, hitting .299 with five home runs and 23 RBI.
Mason holds the all-time edge in the series, 65-46, but the Buff & Blue took two out of three in the last meeting in Fairfax in 2019.
